In recent months, the grocery store landscape has been a hot topic, with increasing prices, new deals, and even recalls capturing the public’s attention. But beyond the challenges and shifts in the industry, a new fun debate has emerged:
Which grocery store reigns supreme in the United States? According to recent data from YouGov, we now have an answer: 7-Eleven is America's favorite grocery store.
YouGov, a renowned market research firm, gathered insights from 1,220 adults across the U.S. between October and December 2024. This sample was designed to be nationally representative.
ensuring the results reflect the opinions of the general population. After analyzing the data, YouGov revealed that 7-Eleven earned the top spot, with remarkable ratings for both fame and popularity.
7-Eleven, a convenience store chain often associated with road trips and quick snacks, surprised many by securing the highest overall ranking. The store achieved a 97% fame rating, which indicates that nearly all respondents recognized the brand.
In terms of popularity, it also scored well, receiving a 65% positive opinion rating from those surveyed. While 8% of respondents expressed dislike for the chain, a sizable 24% remained neutral, contributing to its dominant position in the rankings.
Although 7-Eleven holds the top spot, the competition is fierce. Trader Joe’s, known for its quirky selection and organic offerings, came in a close second. It scored a 94% fame rating, just a few points behind 7-Eleven, and a 64% popularity rating, slightly lower than 7-Eleven’s.
Only 5% of respondents disliked Trader Joe’s, making it a favorite for many. What's interesting is that Trader Joe's ratings are trending upward, while 7-Eleven’s are showing a slight decline. This shift hints that Trader Joe’s might soon surpass 7-Eleven to claim the top spot in future rankings.
Rounding out the top five are Aldi, known for its budget-friendly shopping experience, and Kroger, a longstanding grocery store chain. Aldi earned a 90% fame rating and a 60% popularity rating, while Kroger had a 93% fame rating and 63% popularity rating.
When looking deeper into the generational breakdown, preferences begin to shift. Millennials continue to favor 7-Eleven, likely due to its convenience and familiarity.
While the top picks slightly vary by generation, it's clear that grocery stores like 7-Eleven, Trader Joe’s, and Whole Foods are household names. Whether it's for convenience, quality, or price, these stores have earned their place in American hearts.
So, the next time you’re discussing grocery store rankings at your family reunion, it looks like you’ll have plenty of common ground.
